An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until December 19, 2020

The Holidays are not canceled because of the Covid restrictions.

They will just be different. So who wants to do something fun? Who is up for a parade? Who wants to be part of Fremont 2121’s first ever Santa Sidewalk Parade…this is not your traditional parade.

This year for some holiday fun we are doing mini holiday sidewalk parades in December.
What is a sidewalk parade? It is where a group of our members dressed in costumes parade down the sidewalk with music and cheer bringing holiday spirit while practicing safe distancing.
Who is parading? Anyone who wants to. There is some requirements. First you have to be able to walk in a costume for no more than a mile. Most routes will be around a block or so. Second, you have to be animated. What does that mean? You have to be fun, wave, dance, cheer, and most of all OVER THE TOP. When wearing a costume and parading, your movements have to be bigger than normal. We will go over instructions/training each day prior to parading.
What neighborhoods will we be parading? That is up to you. If you know of a member who is home bound or who is staying away from the lodge because of Covid or whatever reason and it would lift their spirits to have a simple visit, email me with their names, addresses and phone numbers. We will compile a list of members to visit. Also, please let me know if you know of some certain group(s) that would appreciate a visit.
What days and times are we parading? We will parade every Saturday and Sunday rain or shine in December up to Christmas; Dec 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20. Times to be determined later but sometime in the afternoon.
What costumes are available? The costumes we have reindeer, gingerbread people, Buddy the Elf*, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. * For Buddy the Elf, the wearer need to provide their own yellow stockings and elf shoes. We do need a Santa every parade along with Mrs. Claus but she is more optional and we do not have a costume for her. We are not just limited to those characters and costumes. If you have a holiday costumes you would like to wear, please let us know. There are plenty of other holiday characters like elves, snow people and others.
Do I have to wear a costume to participate? YES!!! Everyone has to wear a costume to participate. Some might not feel comfortable wearing a costume someone else has worn prior which is ok. You can always purchase or create your own costume. Most costumes are available on Amazon for around $50-70. I can give you links on good looking affordable costumes. Please be aware of low price costumes. A lot of them are poor quality and look very low end. By the way, every night after the parade, I do spray, clean and sanitize the costumes.
How do I get to pick out what character I want to be and on what day? We will be posting a sign-up sheet for everyone to pick the costume they want and the day. Pictures of the characters will be posted. If you have your own costumes, please sign up under “Other” with your name and character.
And now for the most important question….who gets to be Santa? Santa is the most important character we will have in the parade. He has to have a loud strong voice, a great laugh, big wave and be very jolly. He has to be able to multitask in costume as he will be driving the sled. The sled is slow moving motorized modified riding lawn mower. Preferably have his own costume. He must have his own beard and wig if needed. We do have a handful of members who played Santa but that does not mean we can’t have a newby or two. If you are interested and have some questions, feel free to contact me.
This is going to be a blast. The more energy we put into it, the more fun it will be. It is also going to be a great moral booster for our members and the neighborhoods we parade at. Please contact me if you would like to be a part of the planning, the parading, scheduling and mapping the routes. I will be posting an online sign up sheet in the next few days.
Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments.
Happy Safe Holidays!
